World Polio DayOn October 24, 2024, Rotary International will join global health organizations to commemorate World Polio Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about polio and the efforts to eradicate this debilitating disease. For decades, Rotary has been a key player in the fight against polio through its End Polio Now campaign. Since launching its PolioPlus program in 1985, Rotary has helped immunize over 3 billion children across 122 countries, reducing polio cases by 99.9%. With the support of global partners, including the World Health Organization and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Rotary continues to fund vaccinations, surveillance, and health worker training to prevent the spread of the virus in vulnerable regions. Bruce Schultse - Disaster Aid USAAt the weekly Rotary meeting, the Rotary team got to hear from Bruce Schultse, District Disaster leader who discussed how the Rotary can help our neighborhoods in the event of disaster. They raise money throughout the year to provide supplies/tools for area disasters. A team of volunteers act as first responders for any disasters that unexpectedly hit the area. Helping people with disabilities make their own music![]() Music has been an important part of leading an ordinary life for students at the Music School for Children With Disabilities in Honor of Paul Harris in Lublin, Poland. Founded by Rotary members, the school serves 20 students with various disabilities, including Down syndrome, autism, and visual impairments. The Rotary Club of Lublin-Centrum-Maria Curie-Sklodowska has provided funding with help from Rotary Foundation Matching Grants and the Henryk Wieniawski Musical Society, which houses the school.
